Kenji Kawai (1957- )

Kenji Kawai, born in Shinagawa, Tokyo, is a Japanese composer. After dropping out of nuclear engineering at Tokai University, he entered the music profession as a guitarist and composer. Early in his career, he worked recording music for radio actor Yuji Mitsuya, where he met musical director Naoko Asari, who recommended that he compose anime soundtracks. He is a frequent collaborator of director Mamoru Oshii (both are members of Headgear) and director Hideo Nakata, and was the sound programmer for Silent Hill 3.
