Raiders of the Lost Ark, also known as Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, is a 1981 Academy Award-winning adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg. It is the first installment of the Indiana Jones series. In the film, the Nazi's are searching for the lost Ark of the Covenant to make their army invincible, as it did for the Israelites of the Old Testament, and it's up to archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) to find it first.

The original film sparked a wave of interest in old 1930s style cliffhanger serials, leading to two more films (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade), pre-production of a fourth film (to be released in 2008), and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles television series.
